Guided Tours of England

Warwick Castle Blenheim Bridge

2012 Olympics

Are you planning a visit to the U.K. in connection with the 2012 Olympic Games?  Let us show you the many famous historic towns and cities within easy reach of London and introduce you to the delightful English countryside.

The Games will be centred in London, which makes most of the places  mentioned on this website easily within the scope of day trips.  Indeed, many of the Olympic teams will have their training camps in the Heart of England region thus providing an unbeatable opportunity for one of our expertly guided tours.

The Heart of England has strong associations with the Olympics going back over hundred of years.   The roots of the Olympic Game as we know them today can be traced back to the 1850s and the Wenlock Olympian Games founded by Dr William Penny Brookes in the delightful Shropshire Town of Much Wenlock.  The Wenlock Games gave inspiration to Baron Pierre de Coubertain when formed his concept of the modern Olympics in 1896, a fact now recognised in the names of the mascots for the 2012 games.

Even older than this, in uniquely English style, are the annual Cotswold Olympicks at Chipping Campden, first held during the reign of King Charles I in 1612.  Most appropriately therefore, 2012 marks the 400th anniversary of this colourful time honoured traditional pageant.
